2 The Acropolis and the Parthenon

3 The Parthenon was a temple dedicated to goddess Athena, the protector of Athens.

4 Once upon a time there were 7 sisters (Karuatides) who held a temple. Then Lord Elgin stole one of them and since then Karuatides have been crying and waiting for their sister.

6 This is the Tomb of Agamemnon, the king of Mycenae. People used to burn the dead bodies and put their dust in these boxes. They also used to make a mould-looking mask of the dead person’s face

18 The Olympic games originated in Greece. When they were held, wars stopped. Only men were allowed to take part in the Games.

19 Ancient Greeks liked the theatre and there were some famous playwrights like Aristophanes. Only men played in theatres wearing masks. Also there was a group of people playing the part of ordinary people called ‘choros’. The most popular ancient theatre was in Epidaurus.
