2011.02.15.Synagog of Pecs city, Hungary2 The Synagogue of Pecs was built in 1910. The exterior of the building was renovated in 2001. The Jewish population of Pecs was about 4000 people until 1944. As victims of the deportations of that year, after WW2 only 500 jews of Pecs survived, and only 100 of them remained in Pecs. Nowadays the Synagogue is used only on special occasions, so there is no heating inside. The members of the little Jewish community have their regular services in a place of worship at the side of the Temple. It’s really a miracle that the interior of the Synagogue practically remained intact.
