IMPORTANCE OF THIS DEAL Britain wasn’t prepared for the war they had a lack of surface ships Germany had submarines and an abundance of surface ships Germany attacked Britain basically destroying their sea transportation So the British just ask for old destroyers to handle the emergency situation and the US was happy to see Britain being able to defend themselves afterward.
