How Wishes Began “It’s been years since my son Chris received his wish, and I am still amazed and inspired how one little boy’s dream to be a policeman has touched the lives of so many thousands of people.” - Linda Bergendahl-Pauling Chris’ mother and Founder “It’s been years since my son Chris received his wish, and I am still amazed and inspired how one little boy’s dream to be a policeman has touched the lives of so many thousands of people.” - Linda Bergendahl-Pauling Chris’ mother and Founder In 1980, a 7 year-old leukemia patient named Chris Greicius realized his lifelong dream to become a police officer. Many of those volunteers responsible for fulfilling Chris’ wish wanted to do the same for other children with life-threatening medical conditions. Thanks to Chris’ inspiration and joyous spirit, his volunteers and loving family created the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The Mid-South Chapter began in 1986 and the first wish granted was a child’s wish to sing with Tammy Faye Baker. Since 1986, we have granted over 4,500 wishes to children in our territory. The Mid-South Chapter territory encompasses all of Arkansas, West Tennessee and North Mississippi. The Mid-South Chapter headquarters is in Memphis, TN and the Arkansas Regional Office is based in Little Rock, AR. 78 cents of every dollar is allocated to wish granting. This year we plan to grant 240 wishes to children in our territory. Kids For Wish Kids Noella, 3 acute myeloid leukemia I wish to have a labradoodle puppy Kids For Wish Kids is a program that engages kids of all ages in the Make-A-Wish Mission. Kids For Wish Kids is unique because kids manage the program themselves. Kids and teens are responsible for brainstorming fundraising ideas, developing a plan of action and managing their fundraiser from start to finish. Granting a Wish is the best team building experience there is. You work so hard towards a common goal and to be able to see the person you’ve affected is incomparable. Sharing the Power of a Wish teaches kids compassion and empathy. It also teaches how coming together as a group really makes a difference. Kids can make a difference in their community and in the lives of other kids.
