P1 Programme for Active Learning (PAL) Briefing for Parents (2010) Goals of PAL: 1) Exhibit confidence and enjoy individual and group experiences 2) Generate ideas and express themselves creatively 3) Explore and extend learning in their daily lives

P1 Programme for Active Learning (PAL) Briefing for Parents (2010) Areas/Modules of learning: 1) Gymnastics (Sports) 2) Swimming (Outdoor Education) 3) Dance (Performing Arts) 4) Basic Drawing (Visual Arts)

P1 Programme for Active Learning (PAL) Briefing for Parents (2010) How PAL works in HGP: 1) Takes place on Weds from 12.25pm – 2.25pm. 2) Classes will be scheduled on a termly basis to go through the 4 modules. Pupils will cover 1 module per term. 3) All modules will take place in the school except swimming which will be held at Hougang Swimming Complex.

P1 Programme for Active Learning (PAL) Briefing for Parents (2010) Payment matters: 1) Payment will be made through the child’s Pupil Edusave. 2) Details of payment will be spelt out in the PAL letter.

P1 PE/PAL Briefing for Parents Some Important Matters: 1) Pupil must inform the teacher if he/she is unwell and is unfit for PE. Even better if accompanied by doctor’s/parent’s letter. 2) School will also send out a Health Proforma letter so that parents can indicate in the form provided if the child must be exempted from PE.

P1 PE/PAL Briefing for Parents Some Important Matters: 3) For their safety, pupil must follow instructions from teachers carefully. 4) Participate actively. 5) PE not only to keep fit but for character development (Respect, Friendship, Excellence)

P1 PE/PAL Briefing for Parents P1 Swimming Module: 1) Swimming letters sent to parents. If unwell, must inform teacher/ swimming instructor on the day of the lesson. 2) Emphasize to your children the importance of following all instructions carefully from teachers and instructors. 3) Apply sunblock before coming to school.

P1 PE/PAL Briefing for Parents P1 Swimming Module: 4) Don’t have a heavy lunch before coming to school (same for gymnastics module) 5) Label child’s swimming attire, goggles, towels, uniforms, undergarments, etc. Constantly remind children about responsibility of own belongings. 6) Pupils exempted only if they have valid medical reasons.

P1 PE Briefing for Parents Healthy living: 1) Regular exercise and physical activity, play less computer games 2) Eat less oily, greasy, fatty, fried food 3) Eat more vegetables and fruits 4) Spend constructive time with children to build social and emotional bonds.
