Mazie Hirono (D-HI)  Would provide matching grant awards to states meeting certain criteria  Requires states to maintain current funding  Funds encouraged to improve early childhood curricula, teacher quality, and teacher-student ration reduction

19 Principals Changing Schools Through Leadership and Advocacy Comprehensive Literacy Bill  Literacy Education for All, Results for the Nation (LEARN) Act  Authorizes $2.5 B to create comprehensive literacy strategy for early childhood through grade 12  Districts must provide PD to incorporate literacy across content areas and targeted interventions for struggling students

20 Principals Changing Schools Through Leadership and Advocacy Success in the Middle Act  Authorizes $1B for Middle Grades Improvement Fund  States must create plans for improving student achievement in grades 5-8  Districts must develop early warning indicator and intervention systems, provide PD for school leaders and teachers, and increase supports for at-risk students

21 Principals Changing Schools Through Leadership and Advocacy Graduation Promise Act  Authorizes $2.5 billion for High School Improvement & Dropout Reduction Fund  Resources are targeted to schools with low graduation rates (60% or less)  Districts must provide differentiated school improvement and evidence-based interventions for low-performing schools
