2 The Fujita Scale rate the intensity of a tornado. It rates a tornado as being F0 to F6. F0 causes the least damage. F6 is rare, but causes the most damage.

3 F0: “Gale Tornado”. Has wind speeds of 40-72 MPH. Causes some damage to chimneys and breaks branches off of trees. F1: “Moderate Tornado”. Has wind speeds of 73-112 MPH. Peels off the surface of roofs, mobile homes are pushed off their foundations, and moving cars are pushed off the road

5 F2: “Significant Tornado”. Has wind speeds of 113-157 MPH. Roofs are torn off and mobile homes are torn down. F3: “Severe Tornado”. Has wind speeds of 158-206 MPH. Roof and some walls torn off houses and most trees uprooted.

6 Above: F2 tornado Right: F3 tornado

7 F4: “Devastating Tornado”. Has wind speeds of 207-260 MPH. Houses are destroyed and cars are thrown. F5: “Incredible Tornado”. Has wind speeds of 261-318 MPH. Houses lifted off their foundations and thrown, car sized objects are thrown, and trees are debarked.

9 F6: “Inconceivable Tornado”. Has wind speeds of 319-379 MPH. Very rare! The area where an F6 tornado would hit would be unrecognizable.
