3 The Great Plains Cultural Region extends through 10 states and three countries. It is the largest cultural region in the U.S.

4 It was home to several different nations; Blackfoot, Arapaho, Crow, Cheyenne, Kiowa, Sioux and others, each with unique languages.

6 -Each nation was divided into tribes overseen by chiefs or Sachems. -Leadership was passed hereditarily. -Children were raised communally, and the tribe functioned like an extended family.

7 -Buffalo (American Bison) were an important resource. -All parts were used and the animal itself was worshipped.

8 -Horses were introduced in the 1700’s by Europeans -Became valuable for hunting, trade, transportation and defense.
