What is Accounting? 4/17/20152 Quite simply, accounting is a language: a language that provides information about the financial position of an organization. It is the backbone of business. Provides a clear financial image of a business, and allows managers to make informed decisions, keeps investors abreast of developments in the business, and keeps the business profitable. It is also one of the oldest professions; businesses have been practicing accounting for thousands of years.

Why study A Level Accounting? Stimulating: The world of finance and investment banking attracts many top graduates. Household names such as J P Morgan, Merrill Lynch, KPMG, Deloittes, Ernst & Young, PWC and Morgan Stanley are synonymous with exciting assignments and glamorous lifestyles. Rewarding: Careers in accounting and finance are associated with very high salaries. A recent National Institute study identified accounting as the most lucrative of all degree courses in terms of graduates’ lifetime earning. Variety: International accounting firms offer a bewildering array of career opportunities to suit all interests. Leadership: After gaining their professional qualifications, many accountants move into senior management positions in large firms. The Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) in many of the UK’s leading companies are qualified accountants. 4/17/20153

A2 outline At A2, candidates develop their understanding of financial accounting techniques for business without a complete accounting system, for partnerships and for limited companies.
