e-Infrastructure for e-Science Red Universitaria Nacional – REUNA www.reuna.cl Paola Arellano Executive Director

What is REUNA? Infrastructure for Collaborative Research and Education. Exclusive Network for R&D&Education institutions. Global infrastructure of high capacity for information and communication. Platform for experimental tests of new requirements and advanced technologies Promotes the collaborative work among researchers located around the world “The Chilean Network for Collaboration in Research, Development and Education”

REUNA The National Research and Education Network 15 universities, Conicyt and AURA REUNA is connected to RedCLARA

REUNA – Global Integration

What does REUNA do? Promote and support collaborative projects Provide a infrastructure for experimental tests Promote collaborative work among researchers located around the world

Infrastructure Grant for Collaboration National Infrastructure National connection among two or + National Scientists or Academics working groups Dedicate broadband up to 4 Mbps for four month. International Infrastructure International connection among two or + National Scientists or Academics working groups with at least 1 International group Dedicate broadband up to 4 Mbps for two month for exclusive use, or Peaks up to 10 Mbps for specifics events for max 1 day each one (4 max for institution)

What do you need? Send us a brief work proposal with: Abstract Objectives Broadband requirements Date and time Identification of the national and international working groups

What we hope? To support qualitative and quantitative improvements in research and education Examples: –Remote instrumentation –Interactive Collaboration –Distributed data storage and data mining –Grid Computing –Real Access to remote resources –Virtual Reality –Etc.

Examples Collaborative Environments

Examples Virtual Collaboration www.accessgrid.org

Examples Collaboration in Education Fuente: Internet2 y Ambientes Virtuales

Examples Collaboration in Arts

Example: Grids Computadoras Instrumentos Bibliotecas Datos Gente Fuente: Internet2 y Ambientes Virtuales

Grids Remote Instrumentation:UCRAV

Example: EELA Project Fuente: EELA Project Researchers willing to perform their activities regardless of their geographical location, interact with colleagues, share and access data. The Pilot Test-bed: Resource Centres in EU and LA are "glued" by the EGEE middleware. Applications and scientific data (HEP, Biomed, e- Learning, Climate, etc.)

Our Dream: Chile connecting to the Global Research Infrastructure Flexible control and sharing of distributed resources Resources can be of any information type (storage, computing, networking, instrumentation, etc) Resources can be distributed world-wide Resources can be physical, virtual, single or multiple sited Access to them is provided in a secure, coordinated, seamless, dynamic and inexpensive way Fuente: Mario Campolargo

The Invitation To use this collaborative infrastructure To break the geographical limits To foster and promote the development of collaborative projects “Vi rtual Collaboration in Research, Development and Education - e-Science, e-Research, e-Infrastructure ”
