1 House Bill 5 Graduation Requirements

2 HB5 Requirements Begins with students who enter grade 9 in 2014-2015. Students entering high school prior to 2014-2015 have the option to change graduation plans. Students must: Meet graduation requirements Meet testing requirements—English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology, U.S. History FLEXIBILITY AND STUDENT CHOICE IS KEY!

3 HB5 Requirements Two Graduation Plans, plus DAP and Performance Acknowledgements ALL STUDENTS BEGIN ON FOUNDATION WITH ENDORSEMENT. Distinguished Achievement is earned by Endorsement 4 science credits 4 mathematics credits Algebra II

4 Foundation High School Program – 22 credits Students must complete the sophomore year in order to revert to the Foundation Plan. Students beginning high school prior to 2014-2015 may change from their current graduation plan to the FHSP.

5 Foundation Plan Requirements 4 English 3 Mathematics 3 Science 3 Social Studies 1 Fine Arts 2 Languages other than English 1 PE 5 Electives

6 Foundation HSP with Endorsement 26 credits 4 English 4 Mathematics 4 Science 3 Social Studies 2 Languages other than English 1 PE 1 Fine Arts 7 Electives (Generally, 4 are the endorsement)

7 5 Endorsement Choices STUDENTS MUST IDENTIFY AN ENDORSEMENT IN WRITING UPON ENTERING GRADE 9. STEM—5 Programs of Study Business and Industry—25 Programs of Study Public Services—11 Programs of Study Arts and Humanities—16 Programs of Study Multidisciplinary—3 Programs of Study STUDENTS MAY IDENTIFY AND EARN MORE THAN ONE ENDORSEMENT.

8 Performance Acknowledgments 12 hours of college courses earning a 3.0 or higher Earn an associate degree in high school Outstanding performance in bilingualism/bi-literacy AP/IB test scores PSAT, ACT-PLAN, SAT, ACT scores Industry Certifications
