This is what I know I need to be doing, but I got all these people assaulting me from the top, telling me I’m not doing enough Peripheral vision (your head in middle) this is what I am supposed to be doing. So 6 blocks can be seen out of peripheral visions. Above being dropped on you, below you have people telling you you should be doing more. I know I need to do this peripheral vision stuff (This is how CIO sees the situation) they know themselves there is all this major stuff they should be doing, that they haven’t done yet The whole point: enterprise today is incredibly complex difficult environment Conclusion: if we are going to navigate this new complex enterprise, we will not be able to do it using the same approach and the same technologies that we’ve used in the past, we have to think differently (use Einstein quote or something here…)

The ICT environment is necessary to solve enterprise problems. They all come together and form ICT. Then (drawing of chart) . There is another thing that’s happening. These are the three legacy environments, but there is a 4th that’s emerging which is cloud. It’s not any one of these, but it’s a whole new space, a technology set. (A) So what changes is instead of describing ICTthis way (3) we can actually describe it in a very different way carrier, enterprise, consumer and cloud, and the ICT in the middle is how things are trending. (b) dissolves into where A was. (C) visual that will look something like this that has 4 quadrants, but triangles too that have legacy technology (at edge) new stuff is in the middle, your legacy stuff is fine, Huawei can work with it, the challenges are putting it all together. For example, Data Centers. How do you go from traditional Data center to a hybrid cloud? You don’t replace, you add to it: optical gear, long haul technology, cloud storage, single cloud stuff result is incrementally adding stuff to help you on the ICT side. Even on the next generation mobile branch office: start with legacy LAN, then add to it by adding incremental technology to bring it to next generation. Requirements Web Conferencing Solution Multi media classroom for remote education Solution Huawei i-Meeting solution to provide web conferencing for faculty, student and staff across all campus departments and colleges Customer benefit: Improve teaching resources utilization Enhance quality and efficiency for distance education Lower TCO Background Taobao has more than 2 hundred million of registered members and over 40 million of independent access IP numbers each day; with the annual amount of business transaction of near 500 billion RMB, Taobao is one of the large electronic commerce websites. Customer needs to build a set of on-line transaction data and an integrated backup system of customer information data, the backup system will store all backups of Taobao service data, provide service to over 500 service clients and supply more than 1400TB storage space. Requirement and Challenge Due to the more than 1400TB integrated storage requirement, the storage system needs to have high expandability to satisfy the explosive increase of customer data. Because more than 500 servers access the network share storage space, the service pressure is large and the performance requirement is high. In order to satisfy more than 15TB data incremental backup requirement, the backup window needs to be controlled within 4 hours, which is challengeable to the backup performance. Solution Description Deploy 2 two sets of 12 nodes N8500 cluster NAS storage system with the storage volume of 1496TB. The N8500 is built-in with NBU Media backup software, promoting the backup efficiency. Data is backed up to the N8000 system by the database server and then backed up to the tape by the N8000 system. The large volume integrated storage system supports the explosive data increase of customers in the next 5 years. The 1496TB large volume storage system is provided and can be on-line extended to 15PB according to requirement of customer, satisfying the explosive data increase of Taobao in the future. The single set system of competitors can only support less than 1PB storage space, not satisfying the extensible requirement of customer. The backup efficiency is increased by 4 times, so the backup is easier and more convenient. The concurrent read and write throughout of 12 nodes is nearly 3GB/s, totally satisfying the concurrent access requirement of more than 500 database servers. The data increment of customers is almost 15TB, while the backup window is less than 4 hours.
