The function of the thyroid is to regulate the body's metabolism (conversion of oxygen and calories to energy).

Thyroxine was synthesized in 1927 by British chemists Charles Robert Harington and George Barger. Thyroxine is used clinically in the treatment of thyroid gland deficiency diseases in adults and in the treatment of cretinism in children.

8. Why Did I Pick Thyroxine This protein was one of the few I knew about on the list. I have learned about the thyroid throughout school, and understood that thyroxine was a product of the thyroid. I wanted to learn the process and function of thyroxine more in depth. This allowed me to understand what we were learning about in class and apply it to a real process that is very relatable.
