doc.: IEEE 802.11-08/0096r0 Submission January 2008 Slide 7 6 Primitives vs. 4 Primitives for Location MLME With 6 Primitives, MLME can pass t1 and t4 to SME when the ACK for Location (Presence) Request frame is received, via PRESENCEREQUEST.cfm With 4 primitives, MLME must keep state for t1/t4, wait for Location (Presence) Response frame, and then pass t1/t4 along with t2/t3-t2 to the SME, via LOCATION.confirm –Introducing the implementation complexity in MLME to keep t1/t4 until the Location Response frame is received. In this regard, 6 primitives provide a simpler implementation in the MAC than 4 primitives, for Location service.

doc.: IEEE 802.11-08/0096r0 Submission January 2008 Slide 8 Proposed Changes Use 6 primitives for Location MLME –Switch back to 6 primitives (as defined in TGv D1.02) for Location MLME Add parameters to pass timestamps: –Add the timestamp of transmitting Location Request frame (TX Timestamp, t1) and the timestamp of the ACK in response to the Location Request Frame (RX Timestamp, t4) in LOCATIONREQUEST.cfm(). This will allow higher-level entities access to these timestamps in a defined manner Normative text is proposed in 08/0047r0.
