2. Boiling Water This is a physical change because no new substance is formed, and it is still H 2 O. Nick and Jacob

3. Alka Seltzer in Soda Our experiment is a chemical change because the Alka- seltzer can not go back to being the same and because there is a new substance which is the fizz (CO 2 ). Drake and Dominique

4. Breaking a Stick This is a physical change because there is no new substance. It is still wood just smaller. Gianni and Phillip

5. Burning Paper It is a chemical change because the new substance is ash and can not be reversed back to it’s original shape. Connor and Lyndsey

6. Melting Wax Melting Wax is a physical change because it is still wax. The wax only changed state from a solid to a liquid. Also there is no new substance. Eric and Paige

7. Milk Turning Sour It’s a chemical change because you can not change it back to fresh milk and it is now a new substance. Jianna and Christan

8. Mixing Colored Water Mixing colored water is a physical change. We know this because even if you change the color of the water it’s still just water. It doesn’t make a new substance. Kenia and Colin

9. Rusting Steel Wool Rusting steel wool is a chemical change because the steel wool can’t go back to just steel wool after it is rusted and the steel changed to rust. 10. Stretching Clay Stretching clay is a physical change because there is no new substance formed and it can be stretched back to it’s original position. David and Tiffany

11. Tearing Paper This change is a physical change because it’s still the same substance when you ripped the paper. Zachary and Ian

12. Vinegar and Baking Soda This is a chemical change because there is a new substance which is fizz (CO 2 ) and it can never go back to regular baking soda. Nicole and Sharnell

13. Yeast Bubbling Before it was yeast and water then it started to bubble. The bubbles were CO 2 which was new matter. So that is called a chemical change. Isabelle and Dale
