S3 Chemistry ( 元素週期表 )
2
Aim ! Group similar elements together. Easy to find an element in the table.
3
How would you group the elements together ? By their states ????? Three groups (solids, liquids, gases)
4
By their Chemical Properties( 特性 ) 1.Metals react with water. -sodium -potassium -iron
5
Sodium reacts vigorous( 劇烈 ) with water. Potassium reacts vigorous with water. Iron reacts slowly with water.
6
Therefore, sodium and potassium put into same group(group I). Iron puts into another group.
7
By their Chemical Properties( 特性 ) 2.Metals with hydrochloric acid -Calcium -Magnesium -Copper
8
Calcium reacts ___________ with hydrochloric acid. Magnesium reacts ____________ with hydrochloric acid. Copper has no reaction with hydrochloric acid.
9
Therefore, calcium and magnesium put into same group(group II). Copper puts into another group.
10
Action of aqueous sulphite solution on aqueous chlorine solution, aqueous bromine, aqueous iodine solution and sulphur. Aqueous ( 水溶 )
11
Results: Chlorine solution, bromine solution and iodine solution turn colourless. Sulphur has no reaction.
12
Therefore, chlorine, bromine and iodine put into same group(group VII). Sulphur puts into another group

18
Exercise The atomic number of an element X is 16. To which group and period does element X belong ? A.Group I and Period 3 B.Group III and Period 6 C.Group VI and Period 3 D.Group 0 and Period 2
19
Congratulations ! You get the right answer.
