 WG Broadcasting  networks : satellite DVB-S2, cable, DTT, ADSL 2+ low capability for DTT and ADSL  new video compression needed  HD compression video format : MPEG4-H264, VC1,…  MPEG4-H264 has been adopted by DVB on October 2004

Bande Passant MPEG-2 MPEG-4 part 2 MPEG4 all/most features implemente d complexity From Ken McCann, DVB-AVC group chairn H264 / MPEG-4 AVC Algorithm progress Quatre fois la bande passante demande un codage plus performant First real time implementation 2 nd phase features, double pass etc MPEG 2 all features implemented Time Titre de la diapositive base MPEG-2 MPEG-4 part 2 MPEG4 all features implemented complexity From Ken McCann, DVB-AVC group H264 / MPEG-4 AVC Algorithm progress Reducing bit rate and keep same quality needs an advanced video codec First real time implementation 2 nd phase features, double pass etc MPEG 2 all features implemented Time Compression efficiency

 WG HD Formats & Production Equipments  1080i25 versus 720p50 : quality comparison : with new displays with full HD capability 1080x1920 no more discussion  1080i is better than 720p range of equipments : 1080i25  complete chain equipment production is available 720p50  very few of equipments in 50 Hz

 WG HD Formats & Production Equipments  1080i25 versus 720p50 : quality comparison : with new displays with full HD capability 1080x1920 no more discussion  1080i is better than 720p range of equipments : 1080i25  complete chain equipment production is available 720p50  very few of equipments in 50 Hz HD Forum Recommendation  standardization for both 1080i25 and 720p50

 WG Consumer Electronic Equipments  displays : HD label needed mandatory specifications Inputs : 1080i25 and 720p50 resolution : minimum of 720 lines, no minimum for vertical resolution 16/9 screen format physical connectors : YPrPb (analog component) AND DVI or HDMI content protection : HDCP on digital inputs

 WG Consumer Electronic Equipments  displays : HD label needed mandatory specifications Inputs : 1080i25 and 720p50 resolution : minimum of 720 lines, no minimum for vertical resolution 16/9 screen format physical connectors : YPrPb (analog component) AND DVI or HDMI content protection : HDCP on digital inputs HD Forum supports the “HD ready” label from EICTA HD Forum adopt “HD ready” and will communicate on this in France

 WG Consumer Electronic Equipments  displays : HD label needed mandatory specifications Inputs : 1080i25 and 720p50 resolution : minimum of 720 lines, no minimum for vertical resolution 16/9 screen format physical connectors : YPrPb (analog component) AND DVI or HDMI content protection : HDCP on digital inputs HD Forum supports the “HD ready” label from EICTA HD Forum adopt “HD ready” and will communicate on this in France  Display peripheral equipments : HD recorder (hard disk, DVD’s), …. minimal spec needed for in/out connectors, formats in/out, …on process

 WG ad-hoc “Basic HD set-top-box specifications” HD Forum work on process has based its work on the IEC 62216 specification document First priority Receiver capabilities Video System characteristics Video Display formatting Multiplex and transport stream characteristics Second stepSubtitling Digital Interface Active Format Descriptor Service and program specific information Not concerned CA systems Return channel tuners interactive services

 WG Contribution links preservation of the final quality distribution best quality for the primary transport acceptable price  WG ad-hoc “Digital PAD” this new Working group will start its work next days
