BBC 3 Not done procedures No understanding of the actual f1 job Could not take bloods or put up IV lines Simulation was mentioned but only as the only time they had done a procedure Even though it is edited!

Tomorrow’s doctors 109-students must use practical and clinical skills, rehearsing their eventual responsibilities as an f1 doctor. This should take the form of a student assistantship, assisting a junior doctor and under supervision, undertakes most of the duties of an F1 doctor

Tomorrow’s doctors 110-properly prepared for their first F1post Period working with the f1 doctor whose post they will take up Shadowing period as close to start of job and normally for one week

What does it look like? Have to take the two years as a whole Seamless transfer between student and employed status Ward and community based work Simulation as prelude to actual competence with patient not as substitute Curriculum review

Final year Use the E-Portfolio Understand and undertake the assessments that occur in postgraduate Graded increase of responsibility in patient care Understanding of the mentoring and educational role

Final Year Clear understanding of all the competencies expected up till end of F1 Use of simulation through to actual patient to acquire and document the attainment of the competencies Understanding of the concept of working for the organisation and the contribution that they can make

Final Year Wide range of clinical assistantships working closely with the f1 and the team Time spent shadowing the actual job they will start first Full handover prior to actual start date In Wales this period is paid and accommodation is free

Final Year Aims to make them more competent and more confident Better team players August safe for patients!
