Materialisation (which materials to use, how it will look) with respect to the surroundings of the design. The first idea is drawn by hand, but after there is some intuition or notion of the design, it will be further worked in the computer. The mass-study, for example, he does in the computer so he can experience what the depth is and the height of the design. Remarks Testing is done on paper by hand: the computer is too much trouble to control. The pitfall of using the computer: Perspective: gives more information than sections and plans. The insight is better. Expectations: people expect that everything is on the image, so misunderstanding is the consequence. The good thing about VIP is that it leaves room to seeking, moving and changing. It provides the possibility to work together (on a long distance). A tool for making a bubble-diagram is not necessary, for it is way much faster doing it by hand. Sketching is a very good way to find the right ideas and shapes in making a design. The double lines are multi-interpretable. They are not very clear and will therefore be open to interpretation in a different way. This works inspiring, it stimulates creativity.

Practice There are several types of clients, ranging from a private client - semi- professional - professional client. When it comes to the point, neither of the architects feel much like altering the design 'realtime' with the client. They prefer to design at home. The architect gets his background information and inspiration by looking at other buildings, experience, analysing other works and by coincidences. In fact it is 90 % of reasoning and hard work and only 10 % inspiration. Impact decision

Conclusions Actually every new tool might be handy. The architects don't know what they would want, but they are happy to try anything. Sketching is in fact much faster and more direct than using the computer. A vague representation is needed, for it leaves room for interpretation... Ideas arise often from coincidences. Atmosphere plays an important role in the images that the architect uses to communicate with himself and with his client.

E3DAD – possibility 1 VIP has lots of possibilities to develop a tool for designing. An example is Stick, which is an idea still in an early stage of concept. Some changes should be examined and made.

E3DAD – possibility 2 DDDOOLz is a ‘3D-sketching- tool’ which can be used as a design- tool as well. Some changes should be examined and made.

E3DAD E3DAD – possibility 3 Modeling like with Sculptor Sketch like with tablet or pencil This program is capable of shifting a sketch or multiple sketches to a 3D model. The computer- generated model can be altered by changing the sketches or changing the model. The emphasis on some parts in the plans (or sections) helps the computer to determine what the model will look like.
