© Spot Image 2006 9 The Four Pilars for Mapping : an accurate geometry Spot images (dimap) : both raw images and complete, precise metadata are provided : Position and velocity of the satellite provided by Doris system (accuracy < 1 m) every 10 s Attitude angles (roll, pitch, yaw) every seconde and Attitude changes every 0,12 secondes with the star tracker (accuracy < 2-3 10 -5 radian)

© Spot Image 2006 11 The Four Pilars for Mapping : an accurate geometry Real rigorous photogrammetric modelling is possible with Spot images well known modelling on the market and available in many commercial processing software BUT few are using most of existing metadata (like Photomod for instance…) The SPOT 5 absolute accuracy (with no map, no Ground Control Points) using only on-board data : - single scene : 50 m RMS (model accuracy) - block of scenes : 12 RMS (model accuracy) With convenient GCPs and DEM : accuracy better than the pixel size (2,5 m)

© Spot Image 2006 22 The KOMPSAT-2 system: Satellite characteristics KOrean Multi-Purpose SATellite The Korean Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) has made Spot Image exclusive distributor of data from the KOMPSAT-2 Earth observation satellite except for customers from Korea, the United States and the Middle East. Mass: ~ 800 kg, Power: ~ 900 W Sun synchronous orbit at 685 km: 3-day revisit 10:50 a.m. local time at ascending node Payload: optical camera Panchromatic channel, 1m GSD, 10 bit Color channels (4), 4m GSD, 10 bit 15 km swath Onboard compression (up to 5 ratio) 96 Gbit EOL onboard digital storage

Our Analysis : the line mapping market is mature enough : - hardware/software : pricesefficiency - satellite images : ratio area/resolution/accuracy updating pricespeed Map updating need is huge !

© Spot Image 2006 27 HRS products : network of GCPs over huge areas Extract to locate the GCP The GCP Coordinates of the GCP It is possible to order not the images themselves but only location and coordinates of some Reference points for many applications (images registration, targeting and defense applications,…) over huge areas. Accuracy of the points all other the world : 12 m RMS. Advantages : - GCPs ready to use => easy ! - no need to buy the images or to go on the field cheaper and faster ! - the network can cover very large area => faster.

© Spot Image 2006 28 An operational example : updating of a serbian map Ortho-correction of the SPOT5 THX image with an accuracy fully compatible with the required scale (very good superimposition between Spot-image and serbian Maps) ; Scanning of the serbian map master planes using a A0 format and high resolution scanner (1200 dpi) ; Two IGN operators updated the whole map (3280 new buildings + changes in the road network) Duration of the updating for one sheet : - the updating of the whole 1:25 000 serbian map by well trained operators : two weeks ! => very rapid ! As in a traditional process, some field survey is required to solve some photo-interpretation problems or to collect additional information (place names, boundaries,…).
