3 The examinations of the Goethe Institute Examinations for young learners A1Fit in Deutsch 1 - Level 1 of the CEFR A2Fit in Deutsch 2 – Level 2 of the CEFR B1Zertifikat Deutsch für Jugendliche ZDJ

4 "Fit in Deutsch 1" and "Fit in Deutsch 2" are two new international examinations for young learners of German aged 10 -15 years who have reached the level of A1 or A2 of the Common European Framework of Languages. “Fit in Deutsch 1“ is normally taken by students who have covered about 110 to 130 lessons of 45 minutes – in our schools this would mean at the end of Form 2. “Fit in Deutsch 2” would normally be taken at the end of Form 4. Fit in Deutsch measures not only the student’s current level of knowledge, but also acts as motivation to continue learning. FIT in Deutsch – administered & evaluated uniformly worldwide

5 Common European Framework of Reference The Common European Framework of Reference, was compiled on the initiative of the Council of Europe with the aim of achieving greater uniformity and transparency in foreign language learning amongst the European member states. This serves to improve mobility within the member states, to make it easier to recognise each other´s language certificates, and to promote co- operation between educational establishments in the various countries.

6 A1 Level Can-do-descriptors Can understand short and simple conversations in everyday situations. Can understand information from short written notes and adverts. Can write short personal messages. Can introduce themselves in a conversation and make or answer simple personal questions.

7 A2 Level Can-Do-descriptors Can understand information on radio, telephone and everyday conversations. Can understand information from adverts, letters and short newspaper articles. Can write short messages related to everyday situations. Can introduce themselves in a conversation and enter into short conversations on everyday topics.

8 Step-by-step achievement of the levels A1 – B1 Motivating type of examination and content Target and age group specific – 10 to 15 years of age A1 examination as „appetizer“ to encourage further studying Certificate after passing the examination Action-oriented approach – realistic examinations Familiar every-day situations in the examination tasks Following the „can do-descriptors“ of the CEFR Confirmation: „I can do all that already“ Reasons, why students, teachers and parents accept the examinations so well

9 Application Download Application Form from our website Include Examination fee - Not refunded except in cases of certified illness – in which case fee will be credited Include also passport size photo for students not in possession of a 14+ Identity Card Closing date: 30 th March All sections to be filled in Signature and ID of parent or guardian on Application AND Consent Forms Send to German-Maltese Circle (Address on Application Form) or hand in at the Office

10 Fit in Deutsch 1 & 2 Description of examinations The examinations consist of a written test with sections on listenening comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Duration: 60 minutes (A1) 90 minutes (A2) PLUS an Oral test: Introduction, asking and answering questions, formulating requests, to act verbally to prescribed situations FIT 1 - Taken in a group of 6 or 8 students – 15 minutes FIT 2 – Taken in pairs – 15 minutes
