LONG: Laboratories Over Next Generation Networks. LONG Objectives LONG abstract: n Identify and solve problems related to Design & Deployment of NGN and advanced user applications. n Focused in IPv6 since it is expected to become part of NGN. n Cover all network and services/application levels. l Concrete LONG Objectives: n To Deploy a Next Generation Test-bed where IPv6 protocol can be studied and tested over different Access and Transport technologies. n Basic and Advanced Network services are studied and tested in order to validate their integration in the stable network. n IPv4-IPv6 Transition Mechanisms are studied and tested to incorporate transition scenarios and solutions in the LONG test-bed.

LONG: Laboratories Over Next Generation Networks. WP 1 - Project Management l WP 1 main Objectives: n To guarantee the correct progress of the work. n To disseminate and make available partial and global results to other projects. n To organise plenary and technical meetings needed for correct project progress. WP 1 MM distribution

LONG: Laboratories Over Next Generation Networks. WP 1: Activities l Activity A1.1 “Management” includes the following tasks: n Interface with EC services (financial and technical issues). n Organization of meetings n Management facilities n Technical Management: Global view of technical tasks l Activity A1.2 “Assessment & Evaluation” includes the following tasks: n Project Objectives achievement and Quality Analysis. n Final edition of deliverables. n Resources Consumption analysis (MM and other concepts) n Issues related to partners

LONG: Laboratories Over Next Generation Networks. A1.1: Project Meetings l ISABEL Collaborative Work Software has been used in most meetings. n ISABEL over IPv4 at the beginning. n ISABEL over IPv6 when available (migrated by UPM in LONG). Using ISABEL we have saved 14,315 € in Plenaries travel costs (calculation based in Kick-off Madrid meeting)
9
LONG: Laboratories Over Next Generation Networks. A1.1: Management Facilities In order to improve tech. activities, the following tasks have been done: l Internal Web page repository n Free Cost to the project (Sponsorship by Agora Systems, SA). n Configured and installed at UPM premises. n Used to share LONG deliverables and Audit slides to the auditors. l IRC chat room, mainly to prepare ISABEL meetings. n IPv4-Internet (UPM) & IPv6-LONG (UC3M) servers. l Statistics system has been deployed by TID to check network stability. Used also as diagnostic tool to solve failures in links among partners. n These statistics can be accessed from a WEB IPv6 located at TID in the LONG project and from UPC Internet public WEB server.

LONG: Laboratories Over Next Generation Networks. A.2 Resources Consumption Analysis (II) l Other Expenditure Concepts control tables maintained by TID: These tables are intended to help all Partners to analyze their own financial situation.

LONG: Laboratories Over Next Generation Networks. A1.2: Issues related to partners l Ericsson-Telebit withdrawal on M08 (JUL 2001) n TED had an small participation in LONG project (9 MM. 0,76 consummed). n TED’s financial situation made them to withdrawn from low partic. projects. n Main point to include TED was to have an industrial partner in LONG. l New Partner: Nortel Networks n Contacted in M09. Some other candidates were considered (Alcatel, 6WIND). n Nortel: Industrial partner clearly interested in IPv6 and LONG project. n Following project information, activities and results since M12 (Dec 2001). n Expected participation since M16 (APR 2002). l Contract Amendment sent to EC on FEB 2002: n Revision to Annex I & Letter explaining LONG objectives are not modified. n New Funds distribution. Total fund amount is not modified. n CPFs signed by Nortel sent on 2nd APR 2002.
