8 WIS metadata WIS metadata is ISO19139 based
WIS-Overview 101 WIS metadata 11 April 2017 WIS metadata is ISO19139 based Data owners create and maintain metadata WMO core profile of ISO mandatory for WMO community internal metadata Have concluded that ISO19139 requires ISO19136, thus enfore gml compat. Use the schema at October 2011 WIS Overview

9 WIS and WIGOS WIGOS is at an early development stage
WIS-Overview 101 WIS and WIGOS 11 April 2017 WIGOS is at an early development stage WIGOS will use the WIS infrastructure for data exchange and metadata => Compatibility with WIS crucial for future WIGOS activities October 2011 WIS Overview

10 WIS internal metadata synchronization
WIS-Overview 101 WIS internal metadata synchronization 11 April 2017 NCs/DCPCs upload metadata to affiliated GISC GISCs make metadata of their affiliated centres available in OAI-PMH set All GISCs harvest from all other GISCs its part of the catalogue October 2011 WIS Overview

11 metadata synchronization between WIS and GEOSS
WIS-Overview 101 metadata synchronization between WIS and GEOSS 11 April 2017 The whole WIS catalogue is available at each GISC Can be harvested regularly with OAI-PMH But what about validation? GEOSS clearinghouse OAI harveesting GISC Offenbach GISC Tokyo Other GISC October 2011 WIS Overview

12 Is some sort of clustering the answer?
WIS-Overview 101 Problems & Issues 11 April 2017 Huge catalogue (initially 100k records, but can grow to >1m) leads to potentially prohibitively big search results Large search results need to be visualized appropiately Browsing can help, but needs automatic partitioning Is some sort of clustering the answer? Different communities have different search behaviour Experts search for « precipitation », laymen for « rain » Ontologies might help, but Impossible to agree one ontology => intelligent search algorithms needed Existing centres within WMO Member States may apply for designation as one of the three types of WIS Centers. So far, WMO Members have proposed 13 candidate GISC's and about 110 candidate DCPC's. The final number of designated WIS Centres will likely be over 300. To be officially designated as a WIS Centre requires a demonstrated capability to implement the WIS Compliance Specifications There are specific procedures for having a candidate WIS Centre endorsed by WMO Expert Teams. 13 Questions About ISO19139 - which ISO19139 do you use?
WIS-Overview 101 Questions 11 April 2017 About ISO19139 - which ISO19139 do you use? - how do you deal with situations where different schemata are used? About OAI-PMH - do you have experiences with large scale OAI-PMH systems - might loose updates due to « delta » syncing October 2011 WIS Overview
