A thesis statement… is a single sentence somewhere in your first paragraph (usually the last sentence of your introduction) that presents your argument/opinion to the reader.

A thesis statement… directly answers the question asked of you (in the prompt). A thesis is an interpretation of the question, not the subject itself.

A thesis statement… is a road map for the essay to tell the reader exactly what to expect.
