Watch this short film about Hippocrates. Note down as many of his achievements as you can. How different was Hippocrates from what went before? Hippocrates, born c.460BC

Read p.28-9 and jot down these headings:
Hippocratic Oath Hippocratic Collection Observing and recording Natural treatments Causes of disease Decide which was his Hippocrates greatest achievement and write a paragraph explaining your choice. How did Hippocrates move medicine on from prehistoric times and Ancient Egypt?

Role play task Imagine you are the host of a TV show like ‘This is Your Life’. Hippocrates is the guest. Invite back friends & relatives who would have known him. Possible guests might include: Mother & Father Teachers from Cos Patients Other doctors

Extension task Devise a modern-day Hippocratic Oath. Think about some of the challenges facing today’s doctors and some of the complex moral and ethical issues they have to deal with.

Extension Explore the weblinks on the Studyhistory website. Weblinks > GCSE. Visit some of the sites and add additional information to your table on Hippocrates. Do this in a different colour so you can see this is information from your own research.

Homework Revise for a timed question on Prehistoric, Egyptian and Greek Medicine. Produce an obituary on Hippocrates – you’ll find a template on the Studyhistory website. Extension. Supplement your knowledge using evidence from the weblinks on the Studyhistory website.
