Dressed for Success (Part 2) Your New Wardrobe
Colossians 3:12-15

Dressed for Success 12 So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. 14 Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. (Colossians 3:12-15)

Chosen of God So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved… (Colossians 3:12)

Chosen of God 7 “The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any of the peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples, 8 but because the LORD loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers, the LORD brought you out by a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.” (Deuteronomy 7:7-8)

Chosen of God 9 …A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY. (1 Peter 2:9-10)

Chosen of God …as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed. (Acts 13:48) “…the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul.” (Acts 16:14) “You did not choose Me but I chose you…” (John 15:16) “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.” (John 6:44)

Chosen of God 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. (Ephesians 1:3-6)

Chosen of God 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. (Romans 8:29-30)

Chosen of God So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires. (Romans 9:18)

Chosen of God So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience… (Colossians 3:12)

God’s People 12 So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. (Colossians 3:12-13)

Your New Wardrobe But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. (Romans 13:14)

Compassion So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience… (Colossians 3:12)

Compassion Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. (Psalm 103:13) 22 The LORD’S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

Compassion “For the LORD your God is a compassionate God...” (Deuteronomy 4:31) Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. (Matthew 9:36)

Compassion When He went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and felt compassion for them and healed their sick. (Matthew 14:14)

Compassion 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:14-16)

Compassion Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. (Romans 12:15)

Compassion

Compassion 9 “Thus has the LORD of hosts said, ‘Dispense true justice and practice kindness and compassion each to his brother; 10 and do not oppress the widow or the orphan, the stranger or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.’” (Zechariah 7:9-10)

Kindness So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience… (Colossians 3:12) Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? (Romans 2:4)

Kindness How great is Your goodness, which You have stored up for those who fear You… (Psalm 31:19) so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:7)

Kindness Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. (Proverbs 3:27) 17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone… 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:17, 21) Put on a heart of…kindness

Kindness

Humility So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience… (Colossians 3:12)

Humility 3 Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. 4 Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage. (Philippians 2:3-6, HCSB)

Humility 7 Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form, 8 He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death—even to death on a cross. (Philippians 2:7-8, HCSB)

Humility He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)

Humility

Humility Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; (Romans 12:10) Be in agreement with one another. Do not be proud; instead, associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own estimation. (Romans 12:16, HCSB)

Humility Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him. (Proverbs 26:12) “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Luke 14:11)

Humility When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom. (Proverbs 11:2) Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling. (Proverbs 16:18) …God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. (1 Peter 5:5)

Humility 26 Brothers, consider your calling: not many are wise from a human perspective, not many powerful, not many of noble birth. 27 Instead, God has chosen the world’s foolish things to shame the wise, and God has chosen the world’s weak things to shame the strong. 28 God has chosen the world’s insignificant and despised things—the things viewed as nothing—so He might bring to nothing the things that are viewed as something, (1 Corinthians 1:26-28, HCSB)

Humility 29 so that no one can boast in His presence. 30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, 31 so that, just as it is written, “LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD. [Jer. 9:24]” (1 Corinthians 1:29-31, HCSB)
