Constitutional Power Grab Game Key: This is the button that takes you to the next question. This is the button that takes you to the answer
2
Constitutional Power Grab Game Instructions l Divide class into three groups: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches. l In each round the teacher will give each branch of government an opportunity for an unconstitutional “Power Grab”. The remaining two groups have two min. to find proof from the Constitution (amendments included) by Article, section and clause, why the power grab is unconstitutional. l If you find a check, yell “check”. If he/she is incorrect the two branches can alternate trying to answer within the two minutes. l If the check is correct, the branch receives 10 points. If no one gets it, the branch grabbing the power gets 5 points.
3
Constitutional Power Grab Game l Remember everything you read is unconstitutional. That means it is illegal. You must find the place in the Constitution to prove that it is unconstitutional before the other branch of government discovers it. For example, if it is a Presidential Power Grab, the Congress and the Courts (the legislative and judicial branches) are both racing to see who can prove it is unconstitutional first. If neither finds proof, then the President (Executive) branch just grabbed power he/she did not originally have and gets the points.
