2. A note from me… Congratulations to Kaida McWilliams who was selected as our first Student of the Month from room 31 this year. Kaida is a great student and example in our classroom. She is a hard worker and is a kind, caring friend. We are proud of you, Kaida!. Let’s get those reading sheets coming in! We are still in the lead, with 3,000 minutes, and the other classes are trying to catch us, with a total of 2,400 min. today. We still need 6,400 min. before the end of the month to reach our goal. Next Wednesday, Oct. 1 will be the final day to accept reading sheets for the month of September. Thanks for encouraging your child in this great endeavor that can help to form good habits and build a life-long love of reading. Please remember that parents, not children, need to sign/initial each square for every 5 min. that is read at home. The minimum expectation for each third grader is 20 min./night (4 squares). Students who read the most are not only usually the best readers, but the more successful students. We will be extra busy this week and next week completing lots of assessments for the end of the quarter, in preparation for report cards. Thanks for having your child here each day on time so they can be prepared to do their very best. Please don’t forget that next Friday, Oct. 3 rd, is an extra early release day at 11:45. We will have an early lunch schedule that day. Enjoy your October break! We will be using the “Sign Up Genius” website again this year to schedule parent- teacher conferences. You will each receive an email requesting you to sign up or log-in to the site next Monday, so you can schedule your conference the week of Oct. 13-16 th. Each teacher will be releasing their notices at approximately 2:30pm next Monday (9/29), so please watch for it. Does your child respect authority? Do they do what they are asked the first time, or do you find your self reminding them over and over again? Do they argue with you? The more times you tell/remind your child to do something, the more they will tune you out and the less likely the requested act will be accomplished. Being a good listener is a life skill, and listening habits are formed early in life. Help your child be a better listener, more independent, and more respectful by expecting them to do what you ask of them the first time. Have consequences or verbal praise for their behavior-----you will be amazed at the results! Third grade is much different from your child’s second grade experience and we continue to see some students struggle with the transition of becoming independent workers and thinkers. Respect is the mystery word this week. Each student is expected to always do their very best and put forth their best effort in all they do---both academically and behaviorally. Students who are careless and sloppy in their work will find themselves doing it again and again until it is their personal best. “A job worth doing is worth doing well.” Thank you for all you do each day to encourage your child to be the very best they can be. As you establish an environment of learning, respect, and hard work in your home, you are helping to instill those values and life skills in your child that will carry on throughout their future. “Good, better, best.
