2 Eastern Virginia Medical School supports the mission of the Nebraska – Virginia Alliance in increasing the numbers of traditionally underrepresented groups in the medical and health professions to advance and improve education, patient care, and research.

3 1. Establish and maintain BS/MD programs with each of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in Virginia 2. Provide summer research experiences each year for up to four students interested in academic medicine and/or biomedical research 3. Establish an EVMS Alliance Scholarship 4. Seek faculty exchange partnerships for minority faculty teaching in the basic sciences, as well as collaborative partnerships in research (pending)

11 The program was held May 27 – July 31, 2009 A total of 18 students participated in the 2009 Summer Scholars Program, including four students from Hampton University, an Alliance Partnership institution. Each student received a $3,000.00 research stipend.

18 EVMS has established an Alliance Scholarship - $40,000.00 ($10,000.00 awarded per year) Scholarship awarded each year to Alliance student matriculating at EVMS Scholarship based on academic merit and/or demonstrated financial need Scholarship is renewable based on good academic standing
