Soldiers can be quartered in the home of a citizen without consent or without Due Process rights having been followed. 4. What restrictions does the Fourth Amendment place on government agents’ searches of a person’s “home, papers, or effects?” A citizen’s home cannot be searched unless “probable cause” and a warrant was obtained.

Punishment and bail cannot be “excessive.” This means it cannot be too much or too harsh. 9. According to the Ninth Amendment, who retains certain rights not mentioned in the Constitution? Any rights not mentioned in the Constitution belong to the people. Point out to students that this amendment means, “just because a right is not mentioned, does not mean the right does not exist.”

Are there any exceptions to this amendment? This amendment outlawed slavery in the United States. Exceptions apply if you are convicted of a crime.

The fifteenth amendment protects the right to vote for former slaves. The text evidence that proves this is “on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”

The text shows this when it states, “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.” 17. What right does the Twenty-Sixth Amendment protect for citizens of the United States? This amendment gives the right to vote to anyone 18 years or older.
