6. PAST RULE CHANGE Media Timeout By agreement of both coaches, timeouts in a non-broadcast match may be extended from the 60-second default length to the same length as a media timeout (75-90 seconds). Note: The decision of the IIAC Coaches is to stay with the 60-second timeout.

7. PAST POINT OF EMPHASIS Net Height The specifications for net height and antenna placement are the responsibility of event management. If the net set-up is done correctly, the referees’ confirmation will take only a few seconds, minimizing the disruption to the warm-up protocol. Note: Referees may use their net chain to plumb bob the antennas, but are to call upon event management to adjust the height of the net or referee’s stand.

8. PAST POINT OF EMPHASIS Libero Uniform “LEE’ – BAH – ROW” The libero must wear a jersey that is immediately recognized from all angles as being in clear contrast to and distinct from her teammates, as determined by the first referee. Note: The libero’s shorts must be identical to her teammates.

PAST POINT OF EMPHASIS Ball Crossing the Net – “Pursuit Rule” For pursuit rule to be used there must be at least 2 meters of free space between the pole and score table and behind the first referee’s platform. That measurement must take into consideration padding, walkways for fans, fan’s location on the first row of bleachers, etc. Note: Mark 2 meters on the net chain.

10. PAST POINT OF EMPHASIS Timeout Administration R2 warning whistle (loud blast) at 0:15 If team(s) have not taken court at 0:05, R2 moves towards team(s) and verbally encourages them to take court; “Come out please.” (may toot whistle) Horn at 0:00 (R2 whistles if no horn is available) Both teams should have taken the court. R2 goes to position, signals # of timeouts taken by both teams (R1 mimics) and gives ready signal to R1. Note: If both teams are ready the timeout may end early. Timer/R2 make sure the clock is stopped and the automatic horn is turned off.

11. PAST POINT OF EMPHASIS Timeout Technique - issuing a delay sanction: If a team(s) remains in their huddle past 0:00 and the sounding of the horn (R2’s whistle) The R2 should speak to the coach(es) to offer a warning; “Coach please bring your team out.” A blatant delay, after being instructed to take the court, should be immediately sanctioned without any more verbal warnings.

RULE CHANGE – 2010 - 11 Playing Surface - 1.1.1.2, page 15 During timeouts and between sets, media personnel will be permitted on the court unless prohibited by the host institution or tournament director, but must not delay the resumption of play. Uniform Numbers - 7.1.2.8, page 41 Once the lineup sheet has been submitted for the first set, players may not change numbers for the remainder of the match, unless the uniform is damaged.

14. RULE CHANGE – 2010 - 11 Pre-match Protocol – 9.1.1.1, page 49 In a tournament situation, or (if both coaches agree) when a match follows another scheduled activity in the facility, the shared court time period of 41 minutes may be reduced to a minimum of 10 minutes. If a warm-up court in the same facility is available, the tournament director may direct it to be used for the shared court time rather than the competition court. The warm-up court must be regulation size, and include a net that meets the specifications in Rule 2.

15. RULE CHANGE – 2010 - 11 Deciding Set Coin Toss – 9.2.4.4, page 51 At the end of the set before a deciding set, a representative from each team must immediately report for the deciding set coin toss; the players are released to their respective benches.

16. RULE CHANGE – 2010 - 11 Rotational Fault (Wrong Server) – 13.2.3.1, page 70 When it is discovered that a wrong player is about to serve the ball, the scorekeeper must wait until the ball has been contacted for service, then report the fault to the referees. Note: The scorekeeper will not be responsible for stopping play.

17. RULE CHANGE – 2010 - 11 Ball Crossing the Net (“Pursuit” Rule) – 15.1.1.1, page 78 A ball that has crossed the net plane to the opponent’s free zone over or outside the antenna after a team’s first contact or block may be played back to a teammate, provided a center line fault is not committed and the ball, when retrieved, crosses the net plane over or outside the antenna on the same side of the court. The opponent may not prevent this action. Note: A player is no longer restricted from crossing under the net or net cable to pursue the ball.

18. RULE CHANGE – 2010 - 11 Playing Faults and Consequences - 8.1.3.1, page 45 A rally is the sequence of playing actions from the moment of the service contact by the server until the ball is out of play. A rally is completed when the playing actions result in a point awarded to either team.

19. RULE CHANGE – 2010 - 11 Team Lineup Submission – 10.1.1.1, page 53 For the first set of the match, lineup sheets must be submitted no later than the three minute mark on the clock timing the pre- match warm-ups. - 10.1.1.7, page 54 Changes may be made to the lineup sheet after it is submitted without penalty or substitution until the one minute mark. Note: At the one minute mark lineups can be released to the official statisticians, announcer, and other appropriate parties.

20. RULE CHANGE – 2010 - 11 Game Interruptions - 11.2.6.3, page 58 Timeouts are allowed before the start of a set or after a completed rally. (Exception: Rule 11.3.5.1; Accident or Injury) - 11.3.3.1, page 59 Substitutions are allowed before the start of a set (See Rule 10.1.1.8) or after a completed rally. (Exception: Rule 11.3.5.1.) Note: Libero replacements and requests for interruptions (timeouts & substitutions) can only occur after a completed rally and before the first referee’s whistle for next service. A request for a lineup check may occur any time the ball is out of play.

21. RULE CHANGE – 2010 - 11 11.3.3.1, page 59 A team that is forced to rotate by actions other than a completed rally may also make a substitution request.

22. SIGNIFICANT EDITORIAL CHANGE End of Match – 9.3, page 52 The handshake by players is optional. Note: After the match point is awarded the First Referees whistles and gives end of match signal followed by another whistle motioning the teams to the centerline. Both referees and line judges are to leave the court immediately.

23. SIGNIFICANT EDITORIAL CHANGE Illegal Equipment/Jewelry – 7.3.2, page 43 If a player on the court is wearing jewelry, an illegal uniform or illegal equipment, and removal of the illegal items causes a delay in play, a delay sanction is assessed.
