2  Community Organisation owned & managed by the local community  Aims: ◦ Tackle local issues (economic / environmental / social / cultural) & improve quality of life ◦ Generate income through enterprise & ownership of assets to reduce dependency on local authorities /grant support

3  Set up under auspices of Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council  A company with charitable status has been created and registered  15 Directors have been appointed to the board  Cross section of community selected to ensure a range of views

4  Rectify the Decline in local amenities  Lack of Investment by local authority  A need to encourage investment from other sources  A need to retain and engage local youth  Encourage Community Involvement  Good route to access funding as communities are encouraged to help themselves

19  Running Community Projects for over 30 yrs  CDT Established in 2003 as umbrella organisation; Ltd company, charitable status  Initially 100% grant funded; now profit-based  Works with sister-organisation Cordale Housing Association (CHA): ◦ Sheltered & affordable housing ◦ Doctor’s surgery & chemist ◦ Created jobs for over 150 local people  Generates own income & re-invests  Next projects – more housing; new school?

20  Established 2007; Ltd company, charitable status  Aims: to reduce energy use in the village; ultimately making the village a zero-carbon, zero-waste community  Trading subsidiary: Fintry Renewable Energy Enterprise (FREE) established 2004  FREE has secured ownership of a wind turbine (1 of 15 owned by local developers)

21  Paying for the turbine over 15 years  Income: ◦ £50,000-£100,000 per annum while cost of turbine is being repaid ◦ Approx. £400,000 (gross)per annum thereafter  Investing income in a project to insulate local homes ◦ 46% of homes have free cavity wall & roof insulation

23  Established 1997; Ltd company, charitable status  Consists of villages of Crianlarich & Tyndrum; population 398; few local facilities  Grants-based CDT  Planted 160,000 trees; purchased c.100 ha of woodland from Forestry Commission  Created a play park in Tyndrum  Provided low-cost rental housing for local residents
