Georges River National Park is located on the lower reaches of the Georges River, 25km south-west of Sydney. It is a part of several large and small separate riverfront areas with a total of 320 ha. Most of the park consists of steep forested hillsides and plateau areas which are found on either side of the river and its creeks.

The national park developed in the 1950’s. It was created in April 1992. Before that time, it was managed by a local trust under the Department of lands. Georges River National Park is a place for outdoor recreational activity in southern Sydney. It includes Mirambeena Regional Park ( Bankstown ), H.V. Evett Park ( Hurstville ) These parks provide significant and a wide variety recreational opportunities in southern Sydney and southern west Sydney. These include picnicking, boating, fishing, water-skiing, bushwalking and so on.

The best months to visit the park are from December to April. You can enjoy summertime picnicking along the shores of the Georges River. Spring flowers between August to November are also a highlight. The average temperate is 21.4 degrees.

Georges River National Park is a very good place for visitors. Visitor pressure is high during weekends, summer months and public holidays. Visitors usually like to have bush walking, bird watching, fishing, cycling, boating and sight seeing activities. The boat launching ramps in the park are the focal point for recreational boating in Georges River. Many people launch motor boats for fishing, water skiing and cruising the Georges River.

Grassy woodland is the Native Vegetation in the Georges River National Park. You will find this plant growing on sandy soils under sandstones and small rocks.

You’ll see a wide range of mammals in the park. However, some of them are just visiting from the large neighboring areas. These visitors include Koalas, Possums, Sugar gliders, Echidnas and swamp wallabies. Also there are over 100 species of birds in the park. There are black ducks, manned ducks, hard head ducks, ducky moorhens, purple swamp hens, white-faced herons and so on.

The best way to get there is driving cars. The entrance is on Henry Lawson Drive. Henry Lawson Drive is a major road in southern Sydney. You can easily access it from south off Alfords Point Drive, from the west off the M5 motorway, from the north off Davies Road and from the east off Forest Road.
