What is OT? The American Occupational Therapy Association describes occupational therapy as skilled treatment that helps individuals achieve independence in all facets of their lives. It gives people the "skills for the job of living" that are necessary for independent and satisfying lives.

OT in school A child’s or student’s occupations may include being a: Playmate, Student, Sibling, Athlete, Employee Activities of their daily life can include: Play/recreation, learning self care tasks such as dressing, feeding and grooming, job tasks, household chores

Eligibility for Educational OT Occupational therapy services are provided to children who demonstrate delays which significantly impact their participation and performance of pre-academic and school related tasks and activities. In order to qualify for Occupational therapy services within the educational setting a child/student must demonstrate an educational need.

Delivery of OT services Model of delivery of services including individual, group and consultative services. Areas addressed ADL’s, educational tasks and play. General strategies such as compensatory techniques, adaptations to existing materials and methods utilized toward attaining an individuals goals.

Development General development of self help, fine motor, perceptual skills and executive functioning skills needed to meet and perform within an educational setting. Development is broken down into 2-3 year chunks

Activities List of general activities/strategies to help facilitate strength, hand writing/drawing, scissor skills, self care tasks and sensory based strategies Provided as a resource to parents and other colleagues

Resources State, federal references for regular and special education Helpful links for teachers, parents and therapists that address early intervention, development, handwriting, and use of assistive technology
