1 Listening Exercise © Coaching Out of the Box™ Break into dyads 3 minutes – JUST LISTENING! Nothing else!!  Reflective listening Mirroring Paraphrasing  Full presence Remove distractions Eye contact Acknowledge you are hearing them  Silence Allow them to fill the silence 1 minute to reflect the ESSENCE of what you heard Switch and do the same

2 Encouragement Exercise © Coaching Out of the Box™ Go to pg 33 in your workbook In the ‘Notes’ section make a note of: 2 people you want to encourage 1 way you can authentically acknowledge each them

3 Constructing Powerful Questions What Variety of Question Is It? Clarifying Self Awareness Challenging Action 1 What’s it going to take for you to ___? What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? What are you willing to do? What would it look like if you were leveraging this strength fully? 2 What will make this project easier? How much is enough? What do you really want? What resources will you need? 3 Can you meet with those 3 team members this week? How can you overcome this obstacle? What can you do to make this happen? What are your next steps? 4 What is this costing you? What needs to change within you to make this happen? How can you grow from this experience? 4 Questioning Exercise © Coaching Out of the Box™ Role play a specific situation The one with the ball is the one that asks the next question. If you have the ball, toss to anyone else who will then ask the next question. Try to make it a question that is open ended and starts with ‘WHAT’ Have fun and be daring with your questions!

5 Requesting Exercise © Coaching Out of the Box™ Break into dyads Coachee gets coached on something they want MORE OF or something they want LESS OF Coach for 5 minutes using Listening, Encouraging and Questioning Towards the end of 5 minutes make an OUTRAGEOUS Request Anchor what is agreed upon Switch coach and coachee for same

8 (C) Coaching Out of the Box(R) Little Red Riding Hood The wolf needs some coaching because he has decided to go vegan but every time he sees Red he loses his willpower The Wizard of Oz Dorothy has been to Oz and is now back in Kansas but now Kansas seems like a giant bore after she’s been to the amazing world of OZ and she’s restless Gone With the Wind Scarlett decides she is to much of a ‘hot house flower’ and wants to do something dramatic with her life to ‘toughen up’.

9 Curiouser and Curiouser Exercise © Coaching Out of the Box™ Break into triads – Coach / Coachee / Observer Each person in triad think of 1 or more hobby(s) or skill(s) you are very proficient at, or even expert at and write it down on a piece of paper. The coachee will be coached for 5 minutes as a novice starting out in one of the hobbies or skills the coach is proficient/expert in. The observer will raise their hand each or any time they hear the coach leading or straying from a genuine curiosity. Coach will need to reframe what they have said and/or realign themselves into curiosity
