There is but one good; that is God. Everything else is good when it looks to him and bad when it turns away from him. ~ CS Lewis

We are not given much information about the directions that were given to the people in this. Obviously, some instruction had been given about sacrifice and basic obedience.

Documentary hypothesis: (Wellhausen hypothesis) Documentary hypothesis: (Wellhausen hypothesis) This information is given for educational purposes and is included as an apologetic. It is not endorsed in the least and is viewed as a denigration of Scripture. Tradition attributes the Pentateuch to Moses, but this is not reasonable. Moses could not have recorded his own death. Some sections are definitely Mosaic, while other writers are unknown. (Deuteronomy 31:9)

It wasn’t just his offering that was improper. Leviticus 2, grain offerings are encouraged. Leviticus 19:23-24; 23:40; 27:30: fruit was offered

How often does anger bring about good results?

Delilah ~ “day after day” she nagged him. It was the first time that Bathsheba was on her roof?

What do I desire first and foremost? Really? Keep being refined! You can stop this at any time, not that it won’t get more difficult as the process progresses. Go to the rescue! Galatians 6. Take the shunning out of repentance. James 1:13-15 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert. Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in pagan revelry.” We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. We should not test the Lord, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes. And do not grumble, as some of them did —and were killed by the destroying angel. These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. I Corinthians 10:1-13 No one is exempt from vulnerability!

9 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” 9 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?” A slam on shepherding?

(note on literal interpretation)

He is merely bummed about the consequences. He is merely bummed about the consequences.

Tubal-Cain’s sister was Naamah. 23 Lamech said to his wives, “Adah and Zillah, listen to me; wives of Lamech, hear my words. 25 Adam lay with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, “God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.” 26 Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh. At that time men began to call on the name of the LORD.
