Changes for 2008 A single annual admissions period Sept 2008 through to July 2009 A single annual admissions period Sept 2008 through to July 2009 Early offers Early offers New information to applicant New information to applicant Scholarship applications through QTAC Scholarship applications through QTAC

Every year many well qualified applicants miss out on a place unnecessarily because they do not select and order their course preferences wisely.  To avoid this happening to you, use the following plan as a guide to ordering your preferences : Ordering Preferences

‘Ideal’ Courses Courses you really want, even if your chance of gaining entry is not assured. 1 st 2 nd 3 rd 4 th 5 th 6 th ‘Realistic’ Courses Less competitive courses that provide another way to your chosen career or to a second choice career. They can be used to upgrade to your ‘ideal’ course. ‘Foot-in- the-door’ Courses Courses you are prepared to do if you miss out on all others. They should be courses that in the past have been easy to get into. They can help you upgrade. Ordering Preferences

START MONTH From 1 July 2008 QTAC applications open for courses that commence in September 2008 through to July 2009 This means you may select courses that commence February 2009 through to July 2009

Firstly, when you select course preferences you will notice that they all have a start month associated with them. For example… PreferenceOrderPreference 1 860952 CQU Bachelor of Music FEBRUARY 2009 START 2 251722 GU Bachelor of Music MARCH 2009 START 3 251752 GU Bachelor of Music Technology MARCH 2009 START 4 235722 GU Bachelor of Popular Music MARCH 2009 START 5 723002 UQ Bachelor of Music MARCH 2009 START 6 707001 UQ Bachelor of Arts MARCH 2009 START

Consider START MONTH Courses that commence in Semester 1 must be listed higher than Semester 2 courses to be considered in the January Offer Round.

Consider December Round If some of your Semester 1 courses are offered in the December round and others have January as the major offer round you will need to order your courses differently! If some of your Semester 1 courses are offered in the December round and others have January as the major offer round you will need to order your courses differently!

As some performing arts courses are offering in December they must be ordered differently If you are applying for a course that has a footnote “December is the major offer round for this course” you must list it first above courses which are offered in January. If you receive an offer in December but this is not your first preference you can conditionally accept it and then list your preferred course above the course you have been offered. This means that if you are offered a higher preference in January you can accept that and, if not, you still have the December offered course.

Initial Preferences… OrderPreference Major Offer Round for the course 1 860952 CQU Bachelor of Music FEBRUARY 2009 START December 2 251722 GU Bachelor of Music MARCH 2009 START December 3 421512 QUT Bachelor of Music FEBRUARY 2009 START December 4 235722 GU Bachelor of Popular Music MARCH 2009 START December 5 723002 UQ Bachelor of Music MARCH 2009 START December 6 251752 GU Bachelor of Music Technology MARCH 2009 START January

…then rearrange your preferences in preparation for the January offer round. If you have received a December offer – conditionally accept this to still be considered for your new higher preferences, eg

..if you wish to be considered for QUT music (in preference to other courses) you would list your preferences as follows OrderPreference Major Offer Round for the course 1 251752 GU Bachelor of Music Technology MARCH 2009 START January 2 860952 CQU Bachelor of Music FEBRUARY 2009 START December (conditionally accepted) 3 251722 GU Bachelor of Music MARCH 2009 START December 4 421512 QUT Bachelor of Music FEBRUARY 2009 START December 5 235722 GU Bachelor of Popular Music MARCH 2009 START December 6 723002 UQ Bachelor of Music MARCH 2009 START December

This ‘timing’ preferencing ensures that you are considered for courses in the earlier major round offer, and then, by updating your preferences, are also considered in future major round offers.

Order your Semester 1 courses first before Semester 2 courses as Semester 1 courses will be offered first (generally in January) Order your Semester 1 courses first before Semester 2 courses as Semester 1 courses will be offered first (generally in January) If you fail to secure a place in Semester 1, your Semester 2 preferences will be considered later in the year If you fail to secure a place in Semester 1, your Semester 2 preferences will be considered later in the year If you are considering Semester 1, 2009 and Semester 2, 2009 courses be sure to…

If considering Semester 1, 2009 and Semester 2, 2009 courses… PreferenceOrderPreference 1 413021 QUT Bachelor of Business FEBRUARY 2009 START 2 419202 QUT Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Information Technology FEBRUARY 2009 START 3 904011 USQ Bachelor of Business FEBRUARY 2009 START 4 413021 QUT Bachelor of Business JULY 2009 START 5 419202 QUT Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Information Technology JULY 2009 START 6 553632 Diploma of Business – Kangaroo Point JULY 2009 START
