3. Crashes = #1 Killer of US Teens According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, 6,000 teens die yearly from injuries sustained from crashes. In 2003, there were 8,666 persons killed in crashes involving a young driver age 15-20, and 58% of people killed were not the young driver.

4. Drive Rite: Keys to Smart Driving Being a good driver is being an aware, conscious, and defensive driver. Parents play a “very” important role as teacher and in setting driving limits to keep teens safe. Parent and teen learn together

12. Lesson One Responsible Driving: A Reality Check Session Objectives (Goals): Define “responsible” driving. Identify elements of focused driving. Understand the interactions among thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

13. Lesson Two Dealing with Driving Distractions Session Objectives (Goals): Identify factors leading to inattention or distracted driving. Demonstrate strategies for dealing with distractions. Recognize components of defensive driving in driver safety.

14. Lesson Three Avoiding and Dealing with Car Crashes Session Objectives (Goals): Identify the leading causes of crashes. Demonstrate strategies to avoid car crashes. Describe the steps a driver should take immediately following a crash.

15. Lesson Four Crash Scene Aftermath – Laws & Logistics Session Objectives (Goals): Understand laws dictating driver responsibility following a crash. Demonstrate the steps a driver will take following a crash. Recognize the potential long-term consequences of a car crash.

16. Lesson Five Vehicle Ownership Session Objectives (Goals): List strategies to determine vehicle safety. Recognize the relationship between vehicle maintenance and safety. Realize that some vehicle alterations limit warrantee benefits. Understand the benefits and limitations of insurance.

17. Lesson Six Celebrating Accomplishments Session Objectives (Goals): Identify lessons learned from at least one lesson or topic from the class. Celebrate personal accomplishments achieved through the program.
