Question #1 #1 What year did the park become an official National Park and why? The park became an official national park on October 4, 1915. It became an official national park because it had interesting dinosaur fossils for learning. It also has amazing scenery and wildlife that people can take tours on.

Question #2 #2 How was the park formed? (From an Earth and Science Perspective) ‏ Dinosaur National Monument was formed when floods washed Dinosaurs and some other animals away. Many of these Dinosaurs and animals were buried and formed into solid rock. The rock layers were lifted up to form Uintas and Mountains. Erosion allowed the paleontologists to see the fossils.

Question #3 #3 What types of rocks can be found in your park? Sedimentary rocks are found in this park. These include sandstone and conglomerate rocks. For thousands of years, little pieces of earth have been eroded. Little bits the earth are washed downstream where they settle to the bottom of the rivers, lakes, and oceans. Layers are pressed down more and more and after awhile the bottom layers slowly turn into rock.

Question # 4 #4 What special landforms or features are in your park? Some special landforms and features inside my park are dinosaur fossils, a dinosaur quarry, and the Green River. The quarry is very rugged and large. There are many dinosaur bones there. Paleontologists still work there to uncover dinosaur remains. Tthe Green River is 730 miles long and it flows in many different directions. It has many layers of sedimentary rock. There are many theories of how the river was formed.

Question #5 #5 How is the land inside your park currently changing? The land in my park is changing because the ground is becoming weaker and buildings are being destroyed because of the weathering and erosion. Some of the rocks break down and aren't strong so whatever is built on the rocks isn't as stable.

Question #6 # 6 What environmental issues are affecting your park? An environmental issue that is affecting my park is that the dinosaur quarry was built on unstable clay and soil so it is falling down. There are also invasive plants that have taken over river banks along the rivers. They crowd out native plants that animals need to get to.

Question #7 #7 Topographic Map of the park is at: http://www.nps.gov/dino/planyourvisit/upload/DI NOmap1.pdf http://www.nps.gov/dino/planyourvisit/upload/DI NOmap1.pdf U.S.location:http://www.nps.gov/state/UT/index.htm

Question #8 #8 How is technology used to help preserve and maintain the park? Technology is used to help preserve and maintain the park when scientists find fossils they use computers to find what kind of dinosaur it was. It is also used when they use GPS devices to map out places and put them on a computer. Also, the park has buildings and exhibitor halls that store some of the special fossils for visitors to see. These buildings will help preserve and protect many of the unique artifacts that are in the park.
