Multi-sensory teaching2 Learning styles Some of us learn best when we see things (words, pictures, demonstrations, people). We are visually inclined. Some of us learn best when we hear things (live speech, recorded speech). We are aurally inclined.
4
Some of us learn best when we do things (write on the board, make things, get up and move around.) We are kinaesthetically inclined. Some of us learn best when we read things and can write about them. We are lexically inclined. 3 Multi-sensory teaching
5
Many of us have at least two different learning styles. Some of us are lucky and learn well using a combination of all four styles. 4 Multi-sensory teaching
6
Teaching styles As teachers we have a duty to try to be multi-sensory in our teaching styles but how can we equip ourselves? First we have to identify what kind of teacher we are. 5 Multi-sensory teaching
7
Then we have to learn new skills and open ourselves up to new teaching styles in order to be more inclusive. Then we have to transfer our new skills to the classroom. 6 Multi-sensory teaching
8
The most successful lessons happen when the teacher’s teaching style and the student’s learning style match. The least successful lessons happen when the student and teacher have only one style each and they don’t match. 7 Multi-sensory teaching
