2 UT’s Battle Cast Collection 19 th century museums all used casts to teach the ideals of classical culture and art Prof. Battle taught Classics, arrived at UT in 1894 Built the collection between 1894-1923; he selected each piece and used Classics Dept. funds to purchase

3 Battle’s Casts Purchased the casts from P.P. Caproni and Brother Plastic Arts in Boston Caproni and Brother casts are all over the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Phillipines Plaster is extremely fragile- humidity destroys them and weakens them UT’s is considered one of the largest and best preserved in country.
