4 National Projects Programme Government intends to ‘pull together existing LGOL pathfinder and other pilots into national projects’ National projects will seek to develop common standards and generic solutions… National projects will create ‘products’ ready for take-up by local government

6 National Smartcard Project Initiative arose from ODPM and LGOL Pathfinders All local authorities were encouraged to register an interest First meeting held end of May 2002 Engaged more than 30 local authorities and organisations

7 How did we get here? Creation of framework proposal Agreed to develop 10 work packages Lead authority for each work package identified First draft proposal submitted to ODPM in June 2002, final draft submitted mid October 2002 Overall funding approx £4m approved March 2003
