2 QUEEN ANNE ARCHITECTURAL STYLE  Popular during the last quarter of the 19 th century and the early decades of the 20 th century, which was during the reign of Queen Anne (1880-1910).  # of Stories: Approximately 2-3  Materials Varied: Patterned brick or stone, wood shingles, clapboard, slate, stucco, and terracotta panels, decorative stone panels, and paint.  Distinctive Features: Artistic expression in the patterns and details, bold and unconventional color schemes, and sculptural shapes. 3 CONTINUED  Visual Design Elements and Principles: Asymmetrical, contrast, a variety of surface textures, elaborated decorative gables, flat surfaces, spandrel panels, and a variety of shapes.  Examples: Winslow Hall in Buckinghamshire, Bluecoat Chambers in Liverpool, and County Hall in Wakefield.  Mainly for residential and commercial use.  Architects: Richard Norman Shaw, James Gibson, and Samuel Russell.  This style is most commonly used in Britain, the United States, and Australia. 4 VICTORIAN ARCHITECTURAL STYLE  During the middle and late 19 th century, which was during the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901).  2-3 stories.  Materials: Wood, decorative stone, paint, and brick.  Distinctive Features: Decorative trim, vibrant colors, ornate wooden detail, and steep or mansard roofing.  Visual Design Elements and Principles: Vibrant colors, variety of shapes, textured wall surfaces, asymmetrical shape.
