Scripture Reading 2 Cor. 2:11
2
Introduction Satan desires an opportunity to get an advantage of us. It is a war that we are engaged in and we cannot give ground to the enemy. Satan is the enemy of both God and man. We must know his methods and devices so that we do not fall into his trap.
3
Satan’s device-Unwillingness to forgive We all make mistakes and commit sin from time to time (Rm. 3:23). Many of our sins are not against anyone but all sin is against God. There may be times however that we sin against our brethren. When that happens, and we repent, we should expect forgiveness.
4
Unwillingness to forgive From knowing the character of Satan, he does not want us to repent. Nor does he want us to have a forgiving spirit either. Paul was telling the saints at Corinth to forgive this man because he has repented.
5
The scriptures teach forgiveness Matt. 6:9-15. If we want forgiveness we must be willing to forgive. Luke 17:3-4 Mt. 18:15 Since we all sin and we all need forgiveness, we must forgive.
6
Why would some be unwilling to forgive? The devil would be behind such thinking. Maybe the sin is “personal”. We just can’t believe that the person has truly repented. We want vindication. We want revenge. James 3:14-15.
7
Where will such thinking lead us? To become a grudge holder. To become bitter. To become hateful. Ultimately it will lead us to be lost.
8
Let us follow the example of our Lord, Stephen and Paul Luke 23:34. Ac. 7:60. 2 Cor. 2:10. If Jesus, Stephen and Paul are willing to forgive then so must I.
9
Conclusion Satan wants to get an advantage of us. He will use any and every method that he can. Let us always be on guard and guard our hearts and minds. We must be vigilant.
