4 Reasons to Memorize Scripture 1 God commands it “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.” –Deut. 6:6
6
4 Reasons to Memorize Scripture 2 God values it “Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today, which you shall command your children to be careful to observe — all the words of this law. For it is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life…” –Deut. 32:46-47

4 Reasons to Memorize Scripture 3 God promises He will use it “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, but water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

4 Reasons to Memorize Scripture 4 God authored it “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” —2 Timothy 3:16-17

Ways Kids Will Benefit When Scripture is in their hearts… 1 It will keep them from sin. 2 It will equip them to witness. 3 It will comfort them in a crisis
12
Introducing C 2 X ’06… A national initiative… to encourage Awana children and youth to increase the amount of Scripture memorized; to lengthen the retention of that Scripture, and to strengthen obedience to it.
13
PowerUP What will we try to do? The object: More Scripture… Learn more verses More deeply…in Increase retention More hearts. Emphasize application How will we measure it? The easy measure: More Awana books completed The real objective: More children with a Biblical worldview
14
Vital Signs Are general indicators of health; Like blood pressure and pulse, vital signs of an Awana Club give us a general idea of its health
15
Vital Signs …of an Awana club: Attendance Handbook completion An Awana club that has both healthy attendance and a healthy handbook completion percentage is likely a healthy club.
16
The Two C 2 X National Initiatives… In 2005… focused on kid-to-kid evangelism measured by club attendance In 2006… focused on deepening and broadening Scripture memory measured by handbook completion
