1 Mission and Goals GCA Mission The mission of Georgia Council for the Arts is to cultivate the growth of vibrant, thriving Georgia communities through the arts GCA Goals ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Use the arts to promote Georgia’s economic growth COMMUNITY IMPACT: Support strong connections between artists, arts organizations and the public resulting in community connections and an improved quality of life ADVOCACY: Act as a catalyst for increased public awareness of the value of the arts and of Georgia’s rich cultural heritage CAPACITY BUILDING: Invest in the sustainability and advancement of Georgia’s creative sector Dublin Theatre

1 “The …United Way of America manual, Measuring Program Outcomes: A Practical Approach … defines program outcomes as ‘benefits or changes for participants during or after their involvement with a program’ (p. 2). Merely attending the program does not represent an outcome. Outcomes are something that the program participant is, has, or does in response to the service provided. This is distinct from program outputs, which are the number of units of service delivered or the number of people served. Said another way, outputs are about the program, while outcomes are about the participants.” Carter McNamara, A Basic Guide to Program Evaluation

1 Goals/Evaluation Deep Center FY14 GOAL 1. Improve students’ writing skills. Nearly 100% of students who participate in our writing program demonstrated improved writing skills, and they perform better, on average, than their peers in the district. The following graphs illustrate these findings. Currently, nearly a third of eighth grade students in Savannah-Chatham County enter high school illiterate, failing to meet the minimum standards on the state writing test. Among DeepKids, that rate is half (just 15%), and after just three months of programming. (It is noteworthy that we tend to work with the students who are already low-performing, which makes this number even more remarkable.)
