. Imam (A) was only 8 years old when his father died. Thus, like his father, he also took over the responsibility of Imamat at a very young age. The Abbaside Caliph Ma'mun Rashid was succeeded by Mu'tasim, who ruled for 8 years. He was in turn followed by Wathiq Billah.

During the 5 years of the reign of Wathiq, Imam (A) and the Shia were allowed to live peacefully. After Wathiq, his brother Mutawakkil came to power. Mutawakkil was notorious for his free living, immodesty and intoxication. He was the first Abbaside Caliph to hold and participate openly in parties where music, drinking, vain talk and all kinds of evil were practiced.

Sayings of Imam Ali Naqi (AS) The one who thinks he is obliged to commit sin has attributed the responsibility of his sin towards Allah and has accused Him of cruelty and excess upon His servants. Wealth (means) the scarcity of your aspirations and longings and getting contented with what could be sufficient for you.
8
Sayings of Imam Ali Naqi (AS) To be enraged and angry with somebody who is under your hand is reprehensible and blamable. Beware of jealousy for its effect will appear upon you and it shall not effect your enemy. Wisdom does not have effect upon the perverse and corrupt natures.
9
Sayings of Imam Ali Naqi (AS) There are definite places in which Allah likes the servants to supplicate to Him. One of these places is the tomb of Al-Hussein, Master of the Martyrs (A.S). The thankful of a grace should be happy for thankfulness more than it is for the grace.
10
Sayings of Imam Ali Naqi (AS) Talking nonsense and futile things is the enjoyment and pleasure of foolish and insane ones, and the activity of ignorant ones. Self-conceit stops and restrains from seeking knowledge and becomes the cause of (people’s) despise, scorn, and ignorance.
11
Sayings of Imam Ali Naqi (AS) The clement oppressor is about to be acquitted for his clemency, while the foolish one is about to extinguish the illumination of his right with the blows of his foolishness. You should present thorough obedience to those who present for you their thorough love and advice.
12
Sayings of Imam Ali Naqi (AS) Do not feel secure from those who disgraced their personalities. This world is like a market in which some profited and others lost.
13
Sayings of Imam Ali Naqi (AS) You should present thorough obedience to those who present for you their thorough love and advice. Others will fear him who fears Allah. He who obeys Allah will be obeyed. He who obeys Allah will not care for the dissatisfaction of the creatures. He who enrages the Creator should be sure of encountering the dissatisfaction of the creatures.
