Cloud Computing From Different Perspective
2
but first, What is cloud? Why is it called cloud?
3
Typical network diagram
4
Another network diagram
5
" Cloud comes from the early days of Internet where we drew the network as a cloud... we didn't care where the message went- the cloud hid it from us ", Kevin Marks, Google
6
to depict the Internet in computer network diagrams as an abstraction of the underlying infrastructure it represents.
7
Because like cloud, internet is hard to measure, elastic, flexible
8
Characteristics of Cloud Computing First, the SPI Model Cloud S oftware as a Service ( S aaS) Cloud P latform as a Service ( P aaS) Cloud I nfrastructure as a Service ( I aaS)
9
Characteristics of Cloud Computing Network based or Internet based
10
Characteristics of Cloud Computing On-demand capabilities : A business will secure cloud- hosting services through a cloud host provider which could be your usual software vendor. You have access to your services and you have the power to change cloud services through an online control panel or directly with the provider. You can add or delete users and change storage networks and software as needed. Typically, you are billed with a monthly subscription or a pay-for-what-you-use scenario. Terms of subscriptions and payments will vary with each software provider.
11
Characteristics of Cloud Computing Rapid elasticity : If anything, the cloud is flexible and scalable to suit your immediate business needs. You can quickly and easily add or remove users, software features, and other resources.
12
Measured service. Cloud systems automatically control and optimize resource usage by leveraging a metering capability at some level of abstraction appropriate to the type of service. Resource usage can be monitored, controlled, and reported - providing transparency for both the provider and consumer of the service. Characteristics of Cloud Computing
13
Resource pooling. The provider’s computing resources are pooled to serve multiple consumers using a multi-tenant model, with different physical and virtual resources dynamically assigned and reassigned according to consumer demand. Characteristics of Cloud Computing

Cloud in Different Perspective o Cisco Network Cloud Security o Enterprise o Service Provider o Data Center o Small-Medium Business o IT Manager o System Engineer o Academe o Environment o End-user
15
Cloud in Different Perspective Cisco Network Cloud Security Easier to deploy Flexible Automated Even network cabling
16
Cloud in Different Perspective Enterprise IT was the most promising industry in the.com Era (1990s) Win-win solution, pay as you use (It’s impact in providing solution)
17
Cloud in Different Perspective Enterprise Cloud services providers Amazon Salesforce Microsoft Cloud (Azure) Google
18
Cloud in Different Perspective Enterprise Consolidation Public and Private Cloud, Hybrid
19
Cloud in Different Perspective Small to Medium Business No upfront capital outlay No need to buy server, hosting, hire systems engineers Lower cost Fast Deployment
20
Cloud in Different Perspective IT Manager Efficiency/Maximize Budget Average physical server utilization is 5-10% Backup Management
21
Cloud in Different Perspective Systems Engineering Gone are the days of system administration without Cloud If you cannot stand the heat, get out of the kitchen
22
Cloud in Different Perspective Academe Cloud must be included in the syllabus Systems Engineering Networking Project Management IT Governance Research/Thesis
23
Cloud in Different Perspective Environment Cloud contributes in reducing carbon footprint or energy consumption thru consolidation of servers, computers. Automatic on/off
24
Cloud in Different Perspective End-user Free email account, cloud app, dropbox, Google drive
25
Instead of fearing the challenges, we must start thinking how we can take advantage of the technology
