7 Printed Recruiting Materials General Correspondence – Letters To be considered general correspondence, it must possess these three things: 1. Greeting 2. Body 3. Signature As long as it has these three items in this order, it is considered general correspondence per NCAA legislation.

29 Video/Audio Materials – Highlight Video A highlight video consists of: 1. “Game clips” that contain material specific to a particular event or sports season 2. Narration must be specific to the particular event or sports season 3. Clips of actual contests and events that occur on the day of a contest and are directly related to the contest (these may not include clips of activities that only indirectly relate to those contests)

32 RULES OVERVIEW: Volunteer Coaches and Student-Athlete Fee-For-Lesson September 2009

33 Volunteer Coach ► May not engage in off-campus recruiting activities (e.g. contacts, evaluations). ► May transport a prospective student-athlete from the bus station, train station or airport on the occasion of his/her Official Visit. ► May participate in Official Visit meals on or off campus. ► May transport a prospective student-athlete from the bus station, train station or airport on the occasion of his/her initial arrival at Virginia Tech to attend classes.

34 Volunteer Coach May receive the following benefits: ► Transportation, meals and lodging in conjunction with away-from-home competition. ► Pre- and post-game meals. ► Meals associated with an Official Visit. ► Occasional meals. ► Two complimentary admissions to home contests in his/her sport. ► Items incidental to coaching duties (e.g. shoes, shirts, jackets, shorts).

35 Volunteer Coach ► Limit of one designated volunteer coach per sport at any given time.

36 Fee-For-Lesson Guidelines A student-athlete may receive compensation for teaching or coaching sport skills or techniques in his/her sport on a fee-for-lesson basis, provided all of the following conditions are met: ► Virginia Tech facilities are not used; ► The student-athlete does not use his/her name, picture or appearance to promote or advertise the availability of fee-for-lesson sessions; ► Compensation is paid by the lesson recipient or the recipient’s family, and not another individual or entity; and ► Documentation is kept on file related to the recipient(s) of the lesson(s) and the fee(s) paid.
