Assessment Requirements All students are required to take and pass the Georgia High School Writing Test in order to receive a diploma in Georgia. Juniors will take this test for the first time in September, 2014. Students will have five opportunities to pass this test before their graduation date.

Foreign Language Two units of credit in the same foreign language are required by the University System of Georgia Institutions and other post-secondary institutions. –Spanish I and II –French I and II

New HOPE Rigor Requirements

For the Class of 2017, students must meet additional requirements to be eligible to receive the HOPE Scholarship. Students not only must have a 3.0 GPA in core courses, they must also complete the new rigor requirement. This requirement is that students must take and pass four rigor courses. Rigor courses offered at SEHS are marked by an asterisk on the registration form, and they are also included on the back of the handout.

Planning Ahead – Work-Based Learning This program is for students 16 years or older. This program allows students to receive high school credit while developing skills in the workplace. Students do not have to have employment prior to entering this program; however, the student should have a job in his/her program concentration area to participate. Students in this program must have a driver’s license, student parking permit, and have personal transportation to participate in this program.

Planning Ahead - Dual Enrollment This program allows students 16 years and older to take courses for high school and college credit. Students must meet enrollment requirements of the college. Please see your counselor for more information.

Planning Ahead-Pathways There are three pathways that start during a student’s junior year. These pathways are dual enrollment with Savannah Technical College: –Welding Pathway (will need to take Industry Fundamental and Occupational Safety during 9 th or 10 th grade year as a pre-requisite) –Cosmetology Pathway –Law Enforcement Services Pathway

Sophomore Checklist!! Meet with your school counselor to discuss your education (pathway options, college admission exams, etc.) Learn about dual enrollment options for earning and funding college credit while still in high school. All sophomores will take the PSAT in October. Start exploring colleges to see what their requirements are for college admission.

Sophomore Checklist!! Track your GPA eligibility for the HOPE Scholarship (you can do this on GACollege411.org) Participate and volunteer in extracurricular activities…this looks good on a college application!!
